Sex Doesn’t Always Sell: ‘How to Get Away with Murder’ on ABC Sees Ratings Fall

In 2008, when my family and I went to England, I was watching television over there. On broadcast television in the UK, there was a vast difference between what’s acceptable over there, and what’s acceptable on broadcast TV in the US. In the UK, they’ve allowed things like nudity and 4-letter words in primetime, we didn’t. However, the gap between network TV in the US and UK is closing faster and faster by the minute. If you read my previous opinion column, I slammed ABC’s Thursday night lineup called #TGIT, which usually consists of shows that contain gratuitous sex and violence, all of which are run by far-left television producer Shonda Rhimes. The lineup consists of such garbage as Scandal, Grey’s Anatomy, and How to Get Away with Murder. On top of the sex and violence comes liberal advocacy shoved into the scriptwriting of these shows. The worst of the bunch in my opinion is How to Get Away with Murder, which usually has gay sex scenes at the end of almost every episode.

Luckily, the viewership for Murder is shrinking. When the show first premiered, it garnered over 14 million viewers and a 3.8 rating among the 18-49 demographic (sad day for traditionalists like myself at the time). However, last Thursday’s episode saw that viewership shrink with just 9.9 million and a 3.0 rating respectively. That’s what happens when you alienate more than half of the population, what you hope will be a huge hit usually backfires when you insert your progressive agenda into the shows you produce. And you wonder why NCIS continues to dominate the ratings.
