Weekend Box-Office Predictions: Faith-Based ‘Left Behind’ Will Surprise, ‘Gone Girls’ Will Win Overall Weekend
Despite only playing on 1,785 screens, the new Left Behind reboot, based on the novel series by Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins, is set to surprise people working at the box office this weekend.
This is my second box-office analysis overall. If the success of movies like Son of God, God’s Not Dead, and Heaven is for Real told you anything, it’s that Faith-based films that are respectful to Christianity make money, no matter what the pinheaded critics may say. Would you believe something like this would be possible if it weren’t for our Judeo-Christian origins?
Triad Tribune predicts that Left Behind will have the same negative reviews and positive box-office opening God’s Not Dead made, especially since it only cost $16 million to make. Meanwhile, director David Fincher’s latest film, the Ben Affleck-starring mystery-thriller Gone Girl, is set to dominate the overall weekend, grossing over $28 million. The entertainment website ScreenRant is predicting the same.
Left Behind stars Nicholas Cage, and focuses on the events leading up to the rapture.
