The Coarsening of Our Culture Continues: ABC Immediately Transitions from Family-Friendly ‘Charlie Brown’ to Sex-Filled ‘Scandal’
The Washington Post reports that on October 30 after You’re Not Elected, Charlie Brown ended, ABC transitioned to a new episode of committed leftist Shonda Rhimes’s TV show Scandal, which began with a dream sequence involving the main protagonist having a sexual affair with the fictional President of the United States. The Post also reports that the Parents Television Council, an organization founded by L. Brent Bozell III, issued a press release expressing outrage over this transition, saying it was “unjustifiable” and calling for ABC to apologize.
If you ask me, yes, it was an inappropriate transition. However, I’m sure there were parents who immediately turned off their television sets and/or had their parental controls all set up once Charlie Brown and the gang ended. I hope that’s the case.
On the other hand, I’m hoping the family of Peanuts creator Charles M. Schulz considers moving all of the specials based on their late patriarch’s work to a much more family-friendly cable network. Hallmark Channel would be the most appropriate home for the specials in my opinion, because Hallmark Cards and the Peanuts gang have been together since Schulz himself was still alive and working on the comic strip.
