Weekend Preview: ‘The Peanuts Movie’ and ‘Spectre’
We have two major theatrical releases coming out, and I plan on reviewing both films on the same day tomorrow.
The Peanuts Movie – 20th Century Fox/Blue Sky Studios
First, we start with good ol’ Charlie Brown in The Peanuts Movie. Even the critics are enjoying this fanciful trip back into the world of the late Charles M. Schulz. With an approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes currently in the 80’s range (which could change depending on certain outcomes), it is currently the most critically-acclaimed title from the studio who did Ice Age and Rio. One guy from Variety decided to inject race into the movie as I told you earlier in the week, but that got a lot of universal condemnation on the iconic publication’s website.
To go back to the subject though, this is expected to be a huge hit, even if it doesn’t open at #1 at the box office. It has the potential to do so, but there’s one piece of competition coming to the WWI Flying Ace’s way, and his name is Bond… James Bond.
The 24th installment of the famed James Bond 007 franchise is also expected to open pretty big, although like The Peanuts Movie, we don’t know whether or not it will open at #1. Again, both movies are expected to be pretty huge, so either Charlie Brown or James Bond could take the top spot depending on the outcome.
The film features Daniel Craig’s dark and gritty version of Bond finally setting out to find the Russian terrorist organization known as SPECTRE, made famous in the 1960’s by the fifth Bond film, You Only Live Twice starring Sean Connery. Craig has proven to be one of the best actors to portray Agent 007 in years, and I’m hoping Spectre will be another installment featuring Craig’s version of Bond to live up to expectations.
Well, that’s my preview for the upcoming movies of the first weekend of November, expect reviews of both movies to appear here tomorrow. See ya soon!
