BREAKING NEWS: Antonin Scalia Dead at 79

It is with profound sadness and regret that we must report on the passing of a proven conservative in the high courts. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia passed in his sleep early this morning at his Texas ranch as a result of natural causes.

Scalia is the longest serving justice in the US Supreme Court, being appointed by former US president Ronald Reagan in 1986. Chief Justice John Roberts issued this statement today:

“On behalf of the Court and retired Justices, I am saddened to report that our colleague Justice Antonin Scalia has passed away. He was an extraordinary individual and jurist, admired and treasured by his colleagues. His passing is a great loss to the Court and the country he so loyally served. We extend our deepest condolences to his wife Maureen and his family.”

Justice Scalia was an outspoken opponent on issues such as gay marriage and abortion, voting alongside three of the five conservative justices against the landmark Obergefell v. Hodges ruling in the case of gay marriage.

Antonin Scalia was 79 years old.
