ABC Airs More Radical Social and Political Propaganda
First, comparing the Second Amendment to slavery, then blaming Israel for the problems of the world, then letting a character get a prime time abortion, and now having Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz and Little Red Riding Hood have romantic feelings for each other. As Carolina Culture Warrior and The American Spectator have been telling you for quite some time, the president of Disney/ABC Television Group – Ben Sherwood – is getting desperate. ABC is on the verge of collapse in the ratings on most fronts, and now Sherwood is making the popular show Once Upon a Time allow Little Red Riding Hood and Dorothy to get involved in a lesbian relationship with each other. Not only that, their freshman drama Quantico decided to take a cheap shot at Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz.
Keep in mind, this is the same TV network that uses militant gay activist Dan Savage to prop up their comedy lineup, and former Bill Clinton employee George Stephanopoulos to prop up ABC News. Think about this, the ABC Television Network, once a great brand with wonderful programming, now wants stuff like this to represent their network:
GEORGE STEPHANOPOULOS, ABC NEWS ANCHOR: As you know, the Democrats have said this is indication of your partisan interest. They say you used to work for President Bush as a speech writer. You are funded by the Koch brothers. How do you respond to that?
KIMMEL: I know you think of your husband as your secret weapon. But I have something– I feel like I’m going to be your secret weapon now because I’m going to help you win this election, no problem. Are you familiar with “mansplaining?” Do you know what that is?
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: “A pressure point, soft tissue, an illness, an antidote to greatness.” You think you’re better off with people who rely on you, depend on you, but you’re wrong, because you will inevitably end up needing them, which makes you weak, pliable. Family doesn’t complete you. It destroys you.
Now, keep in mind that the leftism started on Good Morning America, as Sherwood began his ABC career as an executive producer on that program. So, how bad are things at ABC? Read what Variety had to say about this whole situation, which is even leading to a corporate shakeup:
The shakeup at ABC comes at a time when all of Disney/ABC TV Group operations are coming under scrutiny from Wall Street. Concerns about cord-cutting and rising costs have chipped away at ESPN’s image as an invincible cash cow. ABC has been the subject of periodic speculation about whether it’s still a fit with Disney’s larger emphasis on leveraging the power of high-wattage brands: Marvel, Pixar, Lucasfilm, ESPN et al. Lee in recent years had emphasized the effort to build ABC’s brand in phrases like “smart-with-heart” comedies and the female-led “TGIT” sudsers.
Well, at least Variety is being honest about ABC, which is more than you can say for its coverage of the network’s sister channel Freeform, formerly known as ABC Family. Variety actually says that Freeform is successful, especially to its target audience of people aged 14-34. The publication knows that is not true. It’s a bald face lie, but the folks at Variety wrote it anyway. Here’s the truth. As I reported in my previous column, Freeform was down 43% in total audience, while Hallmark Channel was up 21% in total audience, and that was just in April. The situation can’t be more embarrassing. Again, Variety knows they’re lying. This is the same thing The Daily Beast did with the anti-American cable news channel Al Jazeera America. The gushed and fawned over the Qatar-run startup channel, and even said America needed that anti-American news organization. Then, presto! Al Jazeera shuts down operations after only two and a half years. Who knew?
I can’t tell you how disturbed I am as a longtime Disney fan and stockholder to see this happen to a television network that happens to operate under the Disney name. However, I’m not going to let this affect my longtime Disney fandom. It’s not true that this kind of leftism is lurking into the animation and/or theme park divisions. That is false. It is also not true that the new Disney cartoon movie Zootopia is liberal propaganda as I pointed in my review of that particular film. Obviously, Disney’s chief animation executive John Lasseter believes the animation division is sacred. And it’s certainly not true that they’re going to turn Mickey Mouse and friends into left-wing culture warriors. Not going to happen, even if Once Upon a Time has turned princesses into social activists.
All of this madness is the responsibility of not only Mr. Sherwood, but also his new partner-in-crime, ABC’s head of entertainment Channing Dungey. Under the watch of both of these people, the ABC network is in dire trouble. Summing up, apparently my analysis was spot on when I told you that both ABC and ABC News had embraced the radical left agenda in a desperate attempt to get ratings, just as its rivals at the peacock did nearly 10 years ago. If you ever had any doubt, consider it cast out now.
